Digital app helps people living with cancer find support at their fingertips
A pioneering digital app, developed with support from Plymouth Hospitals Charity's Mustard Tree fund, is making a real difference to people living with cancer by providing practical advice, emotional support and trusted information whenever they need it.
The MySunrise app has been designed to support people throughout their cancer journey, helping them to feel more informed, connected and in control of their care.
Available free of charge to patients receiving treatment through University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, the app brings together a wealth of information in one easy-to-use place. It includes details about treatment and appointments, advice on managing symptoms and side effects, wellbeing resources, and signposting to local and national support services.
The app was developed by the Sunrise Centre team with funding from Plymouth Hospitals Charity's Mustard Tree fund, which exists to improve the lives of people affected by cancer across Plymouth and the surrounding area.
A cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Questions often arise outside of clinic appointments and it can be difficult to remember everything that has been discussed. The MySunrise app is helping to bridge that gap by putting trusted information directly into patients' hands, giving them reassurance and support whenever and wherever they need it.

As well as practical information, the app also promotes wellbeing and emotional support, recognising that cancer affects every aspect of a person's life, not just their physical health. Patients can access guidance on topics such as nutrition, exercise, financial support and emotional wellbeing, helping them to navigate the challenges that can come with a cancer diagnosis.
The development of MySunrise reflects the Mustard Tree fund's commitment to supporting innovative projects that improve the experience of patients and their families.
By investing in new ideas and embracing digital solutions, Plymouth Hospitals Charity is helping to ensure that people affected by cancer have access to the right support at the right time.
Every donation made to the Mustard Tree fund helps make projects like MySunrise possible, supporting improvements that go beyond clinical treatment and helping to make the cancer journey a little easier for patients and those closest to them.
