More than 100 hospital heroes took fundraising to new heights at Derriford Hospital this September, raising an incredible £24,027 for Plymouth Hospitals Charity.
The third annual Derriford Abseil saw supporters and NHS staff step over the edge of the hospital and abseil 100ft on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September.
Among those taking part was Amanda Beer from Barnstaple, who returned to descend the very building where hospital staff saved her life eight years ago - Read Amanda's story.
Every participant showed amazing courage and community as they conquered fears, supported one another and did something extraordinary for patients, families and NHS staff across Plymouth. We hope everyone enjoyed the experience and were left buzzing with pride and achievement.
Our very own Tracey from the charity team did the abseil
And your brilliant costumes made us smile the entire weekend!
Corinne Smith, Head of Plymouth Hospitals Charity, said:
“What an incredible weekend. Seeing more than 100 people step over the edge of Derriford Hospital was inspiring, but what makes this event particularly special are the stories behind every person who takes part.
“What makes the Derriford Abseil so special isn't necessarily the height of the challenge, it's the people who take part and the reasons they choose to have a go. On behalf of the charity, I want to thank every abseiler, volunteer and supporter. This achievement belongs to them and we are incredibly grateful for their support.”
The money raised will fund projects that go above and beyond what NHS funding can provide, from specialist equipment and research to enhancements that create welcoming and calming environments for patients, families and staff. It will also fund the small extras that make a big difference during a hospital stay.
Together, you've made a lasting difference for patients and staff across University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Thank you!
