Fire and Lego Walk Raises £6,500!
On Saturday 21 March, more than 30 fundraisers stepped up to the challenge of our Fire & Lego Walk at Derriford Hospital, raising an incredible £6,500 for our local hospitals!
With the sun shining, the event started with the Lego walk, as participants of all ages carefully made their way across a path of colourful bricks—some in socks, others barefoot.
Among them was 9-year-old Lewis, a Lego superfan, who signed up after spotting our poster in the hospital. He did it to support Children’s Theatres after receiving amazing care from the unit and raised an incredible £205.
Our top fundraising team for the Lego walk was the fantastic ‘Rowe Bros’, Alexander and Jamie, who together raised a brilliant £215. Go Rowe Bros!
As the afternoon continued, it was time for the fire walk. Pat, who raised over £500 for the Primrose Unit, was announced as our Firestarter and lit the path to commence the next challenge.
Participants included former and current patients, family and friends of patients, and UHP staff.
Sally signed up, alongside her friend Rosie, to thank our hospital for the care she received. “I just wanted to give something back because I’m so grateful for the treatment I got at Derriford,” she shared. “The fire walk was brilliant, and I really enjoyed it.”
Supporters, Claire and Jo, participated in the fire walk to mark two milestone birthdays, turning 60 and 50!
To everyone who took part in the Lego and fire Walk – thank you - you’re all legends!
Special thanks to Scott and Diane from UK Fire Walk, who made the event possible and so much fun. They brought the fire, the energy, captured lots of lovely photos, and ensured there were no blistered feet at the end.
More photos from the day will be emailed to participants, and you can also find photos on UK Fire Walk’s FB page.
Jamie Lee, Fundraising Manager at Plymouth Hospitals Charity, said:
“We’re so grateful to everyone who took part and to family and friends who supported and sponsored our fundraisers. Everyone worked so hard on their fundraising and it’s fantastic to see the community come together in such a fun and inspiring way to support our local hospitals. We hope everyone had a great time.”
Money raised at this event will fund projects that support the very best care at Plymouth’s hospitals: providing innovative equipment, improving facilities and funding the small extras that mean so much.
