We’re delighted to celebrate the success of Mrs Murals, whose uplifting artwork has transformed spaces across Derriford Hospital and whose work is now receiving the wider recognition it so richly deserves.

Mrs Murals has recently been recognised at the West Country Women Awards, a significant accolade celebrating inspirational women making a difference across the region. The award acknowledges not just her artistic talent, but the positive impact her work has on communities, including patients, families and NHS staff here at Derriford.

Her achievements were also showcased on BBC Spotlight, where viewers saw a powerful slideshow of her murals displayed in the BBC studio including work created for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and the South West Peninsula Children’s Surgery Unit at Derriford Hospital.

Art that changes how hospitals feel

Mrs Murals’ work at Derriford has helped turn clinical spaces into places of colour, warmth and reassurance. Her murals are designed with care and sensitivity, often shaped by the environment they sit within and the people who use those spaces every day.

We are extremely proud that the Charity has been able to provide grants to fund these projects, helping to brighten corridors and rooms throughout the hospital. This is entirely thanks to the generosity of our donors and the remarkable people who have chosen to leave a legacy.

For patients and families, the artwork can offer calm, distraction or comfort during anxious moments. For staff, it helps create a more welcoming and human working environment and is also reminder that small details can make a big difference.
