This autumn, join us at Derriford Hospital for a truly unforgettable evening. Step barefoot across a bed of glowing coals — reaching temperatures of around 1,000°F — in a heart-pounding ‘mind over matter’ challenge.

We recently celebrated the first NHS Blue Wave on 11 May 2025 at the Plymouth Half Marathon. UHP staff ran alongside their colleagues and families, as well as thankful patients and supporters, to celebrate our local NHS.  

Your generous donations have helped us enhance maternity spaces at University Hospitals Plymouth, transforming women’s experiences of childbirth. 

What a pleasure it was to meet Joe Barr from Cornwall Breathers and Jim Shaylor from Devon Breathers with their fuzzy mascot, Joe Bear, this week. The Breathers team was proud to present a generous donation of £2,500 to Honeyford staff, which was raised to upgrade the family room for patients and their families.

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and determination, the Mayflower Crew has successfully completed their transatlantic rowing challenge, arriving in Antigua after weeks at sea.

Plymouth Hospital Charity is thrilled to announce that University Hospitals Plymouth's Derriford ICU Secret Garden has won the coveted Patient Experience Network National Award (PENNA) for 2024.

On the 14th & 15th of September, 170 brave PHC fundraisers tipped their toes off the edge of level 13 and abseiled six floors down, landing above Marks & Spencers. 

A charity funded App introduced at Derriford two years ago has proved to be a big hit with patients accessing health services in Plymouth.

"Everything we do is for Levi," says Tracey Tookey, mother of Levi Haines, after receiving the 65 Roses award by UHP's Cystic Fibrosis team. 

Patients in our Intensive Care Unit at Derriford Hospital rely significantly on medical personnel for assistance. Because of the complexity of their condition, they are frequently intubated or have a serious disease that prevents them from speaking or moving.

The family and friends of a six-year-old boy from Plymouth whose life was tragically cut short by an incurable brain tumour have honoured his memory by raising thousands of pounds for the unit at Derriford Hospital where he spent his final hours.

Staff from the Postbridge day surgery and overnight recovery unit gathered on 21 March to celebrate the unveiling of two beautifully transformed pre-operative rooms for patients.

Last week, we met Nikita, Steven, and brave little Delilah, who raised an incredible £3016 for Children's Theatres and the Royal Eye Infirmary.

The Snowdrop Suite, a sanctuary for bereaved parents at Derriford Hospital, was officially opened on the 17 October 2023. The unit has been renovated to provide an improved environment for families who are suffering the sad loss of their baby.
